Another update to the X-Men series and one of another thousand I’m sure of comic and super hero movies to come.
I’m not usually a huge fan of super hero movies, frankly I’m getting a little tired of them, with the exception of Batman. Anyway, that being said, X-Men: Days of Future Past was very enjoyable and entertaining to watch. I actually haven’t paid much attention to the X-Men movies, and I never read the comics, so I only know basic plots. The one movie I have seen from the series is X-Men First Class, which was also really good. So, going with what I know from that movie, this one made a little more sense to me. It also helped that my friend was whispering background story info to me as we were watching it…
But the movie was very entertaining, the acting was convincing, and the effects were great. It was a fun time travel movie that doubled as a super hero movie, and I felt that they did a good job combining the two.
So basically, these crazy monsters called Sentinels came out of nowhere and started attacking the X-Men, killing most of them, except for Ellen Page and one other mutant who I forget, but Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde) can send people’s consciousness back in time, so she sends the mutant back in time to warn them of the sentinels coming. Some of them are able to escape and hide in a monastery, where they decide to send Wolverine’s consciousness back in time to the 1970’s to prevent Mystique (J-Law) from killing a man named Bolivar Trask. Trask invented the sentinels and captured Mystique’s DNA to make them able to use mutant’s powers against themselves, killing off the mutants.
So Wolverine goes back in time to unite Professor Xavier and Magneto so they can stop Mystique from killing Trask. Hilarity ensues as Professor Xavier is a drugged out hippie and Magneto is guarded inside The Pentagon under high surveillance for killing JFK. Getting them back together proves to be difficult, as well as persuading Mystique to not kill Trask.
The plot is obviously much more complicated, but that’s the basic storyline. The movie was very entertaining and had me on the edge of my seat, maybe it’s because I haven’t read the comics, but the movie was definitely unpredictable, which is a good thing.
It’s a story of redemption, courage, and unity, and proves to be a fun action movie for the summer.
I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars
