My Top 3 Films of 2015 So Far

Now that we’ve just hit the half-way point of 2015, I wanted to make a list of my favorite movies of the year so far. I wanted to do a Top 5 list, but I realized that I’ve only seen 5 movies this year, and I wanted to keep the list to only movies that I’ve seen, so without further ado, my Top 3 Movies of 2015 so far.

Coming in at #3

Kingsman: The Secret Service

This movie was a lot of fun; it had great action, a funny plot and lots of good British humor.

Sam Jackson was hilarious in it, and there are a couple of surprises that definitely threw me off.

I didn’t exactly know what to expect going into this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised with it, and that girl with the sword leg was pretty badass.

And now for #2

Mad Max: Fury Road

mad max

Action packed and lots of fire, the best combination for a post-apocalyptic adventure.

It’s funny how little dialogue is needed to make a good movie, there really isn’t a whole lot of talking. Tom Hardy probably spoke one complete sentence collectively throughout the whole movie.

It took a really long time to make this movie, 30 years to be exact. Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome came out in 1985, pretty crazy. Fury Road is a pretty good follow-up to Beyond Thunderdome, arguably the worst of the original 3, comparable to the Jurassic Park franchise.

I knew going into it that it would be a stressful movie, one of those movies where the protagonist would be constantly attacked and never gets a break, and it didn’t disappoint.

And my favorite film of the year so far:

Jurassic World

Of course this would be my favorite so far, I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if it stayed number one for the rest of 2015. I’ve been waiting for this movie for years, and obsessively for the past 6 months or so. Obviously I’m a huge fan of the originals, so I loved all of the little Easter Eggs hidden throughout the movie. But besides that, it was just a fun movie. It had good, tense action, people and dinosaurs that you can route for and good surprises.

I thought the raptor trainer subplot would be lame, but it was actually really cool, and it was so badass when the T-Rex finally showed up.

The dinosaurs looked great, and the dino fighting was awesome. I would go see this in the theaters at least 2 more times!

Chris Pratt was awesome in it, and I can’t wait for more Jurassic Worlds! They better not screw it up and just do remakes of the 2nd and 3rd Jurassic Parks.

Now for the other 2 movies that I’ve seen this year, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Tomorrowland.

The Avengers was good, but these other 3 definitely surpassed it, even literally, now that Jurassic World has passed it in the box office. Jurassic World is now the fifth highest grossing film ever made, pretty insane! And as for Tomorrowland, it just wasn’t that great. Visually it was beautiful, but story-wise it fell flat, it was just missing something, I’m not sure what exactly, but it didn’t work because of it.

Now here are the movies that I haven’t seen from this year that I still want to see:

Chappie

Ex-Machina

Inside Out

Terminator: Genisys

And the movies coming out later this year that I want to see:

Minions

Ant Man

Southpaw

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

Masterminds

Everest

Spectre

The Walk

The Martian

Rock the Kasbah

The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 2

Bridge of Spies

Star Wars VII

In the Heart of the Sea

What were your favorite movies of this year so far? And what movies are you looking forward to seeing?

  1. I definitely agree with you about Kingsman, Sam Jacksons character was HILARIOUS!

Haven’t seen mad max yet but you are the second person that I’ve heard say the action is good.

I liked Jurassic world but probably not as much as you. I thought there were a lot of parts of the story that they didn’t fully developed (like the kids parents getting divorced, why the older brother was always staring at girls, why it was such an emotional good-bye with his girlfriend, and why the raptors seemingly changed sides just to recharge again a minute later). All in all I didn’t hate it, it was super entertaining.

I also couldn’t agree more about Tomorrowland…it was cool visually but the story was so lackluster. I really liked Focus and I thought the wedding ringer was really funny. Not sure if they came out this year or last but I just watched them within the last month.

I also want to see several of the movies on your list especially southpaw and the new mission impossible.
