The Barr Press Conference Was a Joke

The Barr press conference was a total joke. What a perfect way to say that you’re a partisan hack with an allegiance to the President over the American people. He seriously brought up Trumps chants of “No collusion!” And describing Democrats as “political opponents”. He acted as if he were Trump’s personal lawyer.

I’ll quote one part of his speech that I think characterizes this the most, with my responses in parenthesis.

“In assessing the President’s actions discussed in the report, it is important to bear in mind the context. President Trump faced an unprecedented situation (Trump Propaganda, I’m sure he gained a lot of brownie points from Trump for this line.) As he entered into office, and sought to perform his responsibilities as President, federal agents and prosecutors were scrutinizing his conduct before and after taking office (Rightly so, they keep acting as if the President should never be criticized, unless they’re a Democrat, of course.), and the conduct of some of his associates (Many of whom were charged.) At the same time, there was relentless speculation in the news media about the President’s personal culpability. Yet, as he said from the beginning, there was in fact no collusion. (MAGA propaganda.) And as the Special Counsel’s report acknowledges, there is substantial evidence to show that the President was frustrated and angered by a sincere belief that the investigation was undermining his presidency, (So? Even if it was a “crime of passion”, it’s still a crime.) propelled by his political opponents, and fueled by illegal leaks. (None of this should affect his job performance as President if he really knew what he was doing and knew how to handle criticism, kind of like every previous President?) Nonetheless, the White House fully cooperated with the Special Counsel’s investigation, providing unfettered access to campaign and White House documents, directing senior aides to testify freely, and asserting no privilege claims (Is this the Twilight Zone? I mean seriously, they constantly tried to get people out of testifying, directly refusing to cooperate with subpoenas and hearings and attempting to obstruct at every chance he had. In the report, Trump answered “I have no recollection” a record 37 times, even though he bragged about having the best memory.) And at the same time, the President took no act that in fact deprived the Special Counsel of the documents and witnesses necessary to complete his investigation (Same thing I just said). Apart from whether the acts were obstructive, this evidence of non-corrupt motives (Motives seem pretty corrupt to me.) weighs heavily against any allegation that the President had a corrupt intent to obstruct the investigation.”

So basically everything he said was total garbage and the whole reason he was hired was to protect Trump, which he clearly did. I believe that Barr’s conference and the Republican party’s quick consumption and embrace of it without fact checking him or reading the actual report for themselves is having and will have dire consequences for our governing system and politics for decades to come. That really qualms my gears!
